Projects in the English for Social Innovation class
In the English for Social Innovation class, I taught the students about social problems and different ways to solve those problems.
There were 21 Chinese students and 20 Thai students in the class. We focused on social problems in China and in Thailand, exploring several different ways to deal with them and help the people affected by those problems.
On December 25, 2023, we went to Ban Setthi School in Muang Sam Sip to do a charity work. I have received information that the school didn’t have a budget to decorate the classrooms and celebrate Christmas. We decorate the classrooms, made games for the children, prepared special activities, sang songs and gave them snacks.
It was an unforgettable time and our students said in their reports that they had felt great helping the rural students. And the students, teachers and the director from Ban Setthi School expressed their gratefulness and kept asking when we would visit them again.
By the end of the term, I asked the students to make groups and create projects which must be innovative and also help to solve social problems.
They prepared 12 different projects:
1- Recycled bags from plastic bottles.
2- Light solar panels.
3- Wind turbine innovation.
4- Air fresheners for homes.
5- Atomizer.
6- Pet feeder.
7- Care and rescue of stray cats.
8- Educational card game.
9- Care of old people.
10- Water purifier.
11- Recycled paper boxes.
12- Separating waste garbage for recycling.
Every group wrote a paper explaining its projects and answering questions about it. Finally, they made posters and presented their projects in English in front of the class.
It was a great activity in which they needed to work hard and present their progress little by little.
They could achieve the goals for the class, learning a lot of English vocabulary, developing, creativity working in teams and thinking how to help others.
As their teacher, I felt grateful for their dedication and very satisfied for everything we could do in the class of English for Social Innovation.
